BRM OFFROAD

CORR 2005 RACE RECAP & PIX

WOW!!!! That was awesome!! We had a our first 2 CORR races at Chula Vista International Raceway on October 1st & 2nd and it was incredible!! We can't wait for the '06 season. There were 44 sportsman single buggies signed up to compete for the $20,000 grand prize. The class was much larger than Jim Baldwin and the rest of the CORR crew anticipated and ended up splitting our class in half as well as the purse. With 22 cars on the line the adrenaline was flowing. Jeff was in group A and Missy was split into group B so we had a BRM OFFROAD car in both races. On Saturday, Jeff and the rest of group A raced early in the day with a nicely groomed track. This was Jeff's first ever race and only the 2nd time in the car. He had about a ½ hour of testing in the spring. Missy and group B were the last race of the day, and the track was brutal as it saw action by the 38 stock trucks, super buggies, pro-lites, pro-2's, pro-4's, and desert trucks. The track layout was great though. At the start there was a landrush start to turn one, but not before launching off a 4-5 foot jump. Jeff wasn't too worried about what his car would do, since it's a proven race car. However, Missy wasn't so sure of the #319 car that we built. The only dirt it had seen up to this point was the pits. But Missy kept the hammer down and hit the jump full speed. This was highly recommended by the other racers out there too J. Jeff did pretty good on Saturday but had to fight the car in the corners due to some front suspension issues. He finished 16th out of the 22, not bad for his 1st race. We were able to address the front end issues after the race and Jeff did a lot better in race 2 on Sunday with a respectable 13th. Missy had a good time in race 1 as well. She was battling for a top 15 position when she lost her left rear wheel just as she went thru the rhythm section to get the white flag. Her day was done with a 17th place finish. The car did great in it's 1st race without any practice time, but we still have quite a bit to work out. We fixed the wheel (oblong holes now) and tightened the wheel nuts as tight as we could to prepare for race 2 on Sunday. The wheel stayed on throughout the duration of the race, but a few other problems were noted: the steering wheel would spin on the shaft in some corners, the shift linkage wouldn't go into 2nd gear, and 1 of the lugnuts on the rear left tire had come off with another lugnut that had backed itself off half way. Missy finished with a 16th place finish out of 22. We had a great time in our debut and are already excited about the 2006 season.

How it all started...

We are avid offroad enthusiasts who have been riding/racing quads, dirtbikes, and 3-wheelers since the '80's and love to be around the sport. We used to watch the Mickey Thompson Stadium Racing and never missed a race when they came to our city. After our first ever trip to Crandon, Wisconsin in September of 2002 to watch the Borg Warner Shootout in the Championship Offroad Racing series, we were officially hooked. We started planning our buggies. The goal, to race at Crandon! If you've ever been there, and 50,000 of you were that same weekend in '02, it's amazing! The pro trucks fly down the Oklahoma Land Rush Start at 100mph as they come into turn 1, the roar of their trucks are awesome! It's a must place to visit if you're into offroad racing. What a blast!

On March 7th of 2003 I was practicing for our next quad race and broke my femur. The moment we got home from the hospital stay we purchased 2 bare sand chassis and started making modifications hoping to start racing with a cage before too long. Below are photo's of 1 of our buggies in work.

May 2003 First day home with our 2 chassis May 2003 We're looking forward to our first CORR Series Sept. 2003 We've been cutting out the smaller tubing and welding in 1½" tubing Sept. 2003 We finally got the front suspension welded on.

Aug. 2005 We drove to Missouri to buy S. Morrow's buggy, in Nov 2004... Aug. 2005 ... and this is the 1st time we've been able to test it. Lots of fun! This however, was the only day we did any testing. Aug. 2005 It just needed a little work when we bought it, & now we just have a couple of things to fine tune. Just a couple days before our 1st race in Chula Vista, CA we finished the final touches on this one (334)

Well, here we are at Chula Vista, CA for our 1st ever race. The cars look good and we're excited to see how they do.   This is the one we built from the sand chassis, following all the requirements from the CORR rule book. We finished everything the day before we headed to the track. This car has 0 seat time (except for the 9 passes up and down our street. We'll see what we can do!!   We're ready to race... looking forward to the memories and stories to share.
