ROUND 1 - JANUARY 25, 2009

Round 1 showed a light turnout, with a local motocross race the day before and a regional series in town. It was the first time quad racers had 3 entirely different options in the same weekend. After both competing in the regional series the day before, we were both as ready as could be for another 50 minute grand prix race.

The first race of the morning started with the Women's classes all starting together. Missy Barrett was the only 'A' rider, Marsha Garcia ran 'B', and Lisa Johnson and Darby Martin both competed in 'C'. At the start, Marsha jumped out to a great start followed by Lisa & Missy. Darby had a little trouble on the line, but quickly caught up. There was a great battle with Marsha and Missy swapping positions throughout the first 4 laps. Missy finally got her last pass to stick around lap 4 while Lisa and Darby were having just as exciting of a battle, with Lisa coming across the line 1st, 3rd overall.

The next group of racers included Jeff and the rest of the 40+ group. Jeff was on the line with Jack Gravel in the 'A' class, Ken George and Jeffrey Mitchell in the 'B' class, and Aileen Baca in the 'D' class. They all had a competitive start with Jack grabbing the holeshot. Jack was clearly out in first but a great battle with Ken and both Jeff's wasn't far behind. About half way thru the race Jeff Barrett made the pass on Jeffrey Mitchell for 3rd overall.
