BRM OFFROAD - 1600 BUGGY SHORT COURSE RACING
Racing has been our passion forever and in 2003 we made our 1st trip to Crandon International Raceway in Crandon, Wisconsin to witness firsthand the best short course offroad racing we could imagine. We also picked a lot of brains about what it would take for us to get involved, even though we lived states away in the Southwest. In 2004-'05 CORR was changing ownership and the series was coming to the Southwest, making our dream a reality. We built our 1st of 2 buggy's in 2005, the 1st buggy was not very good, but we were able to make the CORR debut in 2005 in Chula Vista, CA along with another buggy we purchased in Missouri in Nov of '04. Afterwards we realized it was going to be pretty impossible for both of us to race with a newborn, so we sold both buggies over time and built our own contender. We have raced with CORR in CA (2005-'07), WSORR in MO & MI (2008), Whiplash in AZ (2008), TORC in WI (2009), Glen Helen in CA (2009 season champion), ASCC in AZ (2010-11), and Lucas Oil Regionals in Arizona and Utah (2012-14, Utah champion in 2013). Below are some of our favorite photo's. When we have the time we'll organize the page better and copy our race recap info over from our old site. Until then, thanks for looking. Pix and info on more recent seasons to come as we rebuild our site. Thanks for you patience, check back soon.
2013 LUCAS OIL REGIONAL-UTAH SERIES, ROUND 5
BRM OFFROAD takes 1st place honors at round 5 in the 1600 Limited Buggy class at the Lucas Oil Regional Series at Miller Motorsports in Utah!
After sitting for 2½ years we were finally able to get things together to make the final round of the Lucas Oil Regional Series in Utah. We are so blessed to be able to have put this together at the last minute and make the 4 hour trip to Tooele, Utah and our 1st, and definitely not our last, trip to Miller Motorsports Park.
We arrived Friday, late afternoon, just missing a gnarly rain shower in the Salt Lake area that dumped a lot of water on the track, a half hour away. We arrived at Miller Motorsports facility and felt like any kid with a free pass in a candy store. The place is amazing. Tracks for so many different types of racing seemed to stretch from mountain range to mountain range. There are race shops, full court basketball courts including 6 foot hoops for the little tikes, zip-lines, playground, just an awesome package all tucked away between the mountains giving itself a beautiful backdrop every way you look. Practice was just ending when we pulled in and the Lucas Oil crew was hard at work pumping water off the track from the heavy storm. By Saturday morning, the track was in great shape.
Friday night more and more racers kept pouring in, the biggest racer and spectator turnout all season. One of the best parts was even though people were setting up their pits all night, it was the quietest night we've ever enjoyed at a race. Dead silence for everyone. Nice. Saturday morning came with the sun rising over the mountains to the east, lighting up the fresh layer of snow on the mountains to the west. Just a beautiful morning. We haven't been able to race our buggy for the past 2½ years, and we were just itching to hit the track. This past year our 1600 buggy saw several upgrades with the biggest one was adding power steering. It was definitely needed for the 12 lap main.
After struggling with electrical issues in practice and the first heat we were hoping to just keep it running for the 12 lap main. The first 6 laps were tricky with the fresh watering,
but by the time the full course yellow came out on lap 6, we were starting to really hook up. There were only 3 buggy's in the 1600 Limited class, but it was also the best showing all season. There was one stock truck that showed and it raced in our heat with us. He was on the pole and we started in second, to the outside. As the green flag dropped Jeff tried to avoid sliding into the truck, and from being hit from the fresh water being laid down.
The racing was great! We stayed out front the entire race and just had a great time getting back out there, seeing some old friends, and making some new ones.

2011 ASCC SERIES - ROUND 1
We arrived Saturday morning at the Lucas Oil Regional track, Speedworld, in Surprise, AZ to a mostly full pit area. We unloaded and made our way over to tech only to see that ASCC had a far better turnout than they were expecting. We patiently waited, and visited with others, for 2 hours in tech... and the line didn't stop with us. Due to time constraints, morning practice was cancelled and heat racing began as soon as the drivers meeting was finished.
We got team driver, Jeff Barrett all geared up and our BRM Offroad Chassis built 1600 buggy to the line. This would be Jeff's first time back behind the wheel since May 2010, and only the 2nd time on the Speedworld/Lucas Oil track. Our Heat race went well, shaking out the cobwebs and remembering how hard you need to push it out there. Jeff finished 5th and with a little carb adjustment, slipping in a smaller jet, we were ready for the Main.
The Limited 1600 Buggy's were lined up behind the Unlimited Buggy's and ready to go. Jeff got a great start battling for a couple of laps with the 383 & 389 buggy's before settling into 3rd place. The racing was close and intense as Jeff stayed close to 1st & 2nd place. With one lap to go before the full-course competition yellow came out, our tranny blew. We had such a great run going too. Jeff was heading down the front stretch and as he went into turn one he felt a shake. The adrenaline was flying, gauges all looked great, he went into turn two and that's when it happened. He felt a hard jolt and the motor shut down. The crew saw him coast into turn 3 and pull off the track. We had radio communication the entire time and there was no smoking or anything from the buggy. Jeff climbed out and went to check the motor for leaking, smoke, anything and that's when he saw the small fire. Waving over to the ASCC crew for some assistance, they raced over to put out the flames. Not much was damaged at initial inspection, but we'll be taking a closer look at things and getting it ready to go for Round 2 in March.
Below are some videos from various rounds while we try to dig up photo's from each round.
