BRM OFFROAD - SxS RACING
AXC Racing 2022 - Round 11, Mountain Grove, MO
October 28-29, 2022 we loaded up and headed north to Missouri from our new home state of Arkansas to race our Wildcat XXs in the AXC Pumpkin Smash at Hooter Holler Offroad Park in Mountain Grove, MO. We haven't raced since 2016, with RMURA in Colorado, so we were expecting to be rusty and we have yet to test our Wildcat XX's in the tight woods and creek beds with speed (we can putt through the trails without too many problems, lol). We have been wanting to race with AXC for quite some time, but parenting comes first and we needed to wait it out. The AXC staff, actually everybody, were incredibly polite and friendly, welcoming everyone around. It was great to be back out at the track, camping, visiting, competing, and making more great memories.
Saturday afternoon: Goals were to not break down or get in the way of those in the points series. When you don't meet your goals, keep trying... we have a little repair work to take care of if we hope to make round 12 in November. There were 11 SxS's overall, with 5 being in our class (C). We started at the back to stay out of the way of the regular racers and their points. The terrain at Hooter Holler Offroad Park is amazing! Some high speed tree lined trails, tight corners, sweeping corners to slide through, great hillclimbs that weren't too intimidating for us 1st-timers, downhills were great, off-camber trails and corners, more than enough rocks and stumps to crawl over and between, water crossings or hazards were minimal (thank goodness), a lot of elevation changes, high speed open trail access to test out the push in your right foot was fun, but the field layout (reminded us of Mid America Offroad in Jay, OK) was our favorite section! We had one racer rollover in front of us in the last righthand corner in the field, he was rolled back on all 4 and appeared to be ok, but unfortunately out for the remainder of the race. Much of the 6.5 mile track was a blast, trickiest part was probably just all the dust and tires down the front straightaway. Our lap speeds improved each lap as we got more comfortable navigating completely different terrain than we have ever raced, or really even explored. We both ran in 2wd the majority of the race and afterwards realized that probably didn't help, lol, but it's what we're used to. Overall, we had a blast and are looking forward to racing more. Please check out AXC Racing for info on their series. Amazing group of staff and racers!
